Congratulations and good luck to our our newest graduates.  A big shout out to Stephen Bendig, Dominic Ciraula, Jessie Klousnitzer, Richard Ellebie, Anthony Thomas, Sarah O’Malley, Gabe Ferraro, Rebecca Treimer, Chris Rob and so many others who have shared time in my classroom or at the TV or radio stations. They’ve lived, learned and shared so much with our classes and our production at WCN and Titan Radio.

THE SELFIE STICK!

I have a track record of serving as a shutterbug in the faculty during the commencement ceremonies.  This year I debuted my selfie stick.  I’m trying to decide if every young professional working in media should have one of these in their ‘bag of tricks.’  It’s lightweight and allows you to shoot from higher angles in crowded spaces.

Honoring Paul

The College also awarded a degree posthumously to our late friend and peer, Paul Sammons.  Paul worked closely with our students, staff and faculty at Titan Radio and WCN.  We miss him and have a special place in our hearts for him.

Other Farewells!

This was also the last commencement for retiring registrar June Pierce.  Her devotion to solving issues with registration, degree audits and everything else was always highly personal and quick.

It was also the farewell commencement for Classics Professor Dwight Castro, Ph.D., who retires after 45-years as teaching faculty at the institution. Castro received the 2015 17470443051_243128f2f2_bDistinguished Faculty Award earlier in the semester.  If there is a master cutup in the faculty, that would be Dr. Castro.  I love sitting next to him during Faculty Forum and other events as it’s like getting a comedic director’s cut of what’s happening.
